Shanay Howard



Shanay Howard is a licensed school counselor and former D1 basketball player who started her student-athlete journey at the age of 12 years old. While in college she also served as a representative on the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council. You can see many of her basketball accolades on her college profile.

After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Shanay returned to her former AAU program, Positive Direction, where she volunteered for 7 years as a coach and educational specialist. There she advised hundreds of student-athletes, assisting them in planning for high school and/or college.

Shanay Howard has been in education for 10 years. Prior to living in Virginia, she worked for NYC Department of Education in various capacities where she supported student achievement and counseled parents on how to monitor their student’s academic progress. During those years, she helped numerous students obtain both academic and athletic 4-year college scholarships. 


Presently, Shanay is a school counselor and administrator at Virginia Academy in Ashburn, VA. At Virginia Academy she continues to thrive in helping student-athletes by providing academic, social and spiritual counseling to students in grades 6 through 12. In addition to school counseling, Shanay is the head coach of the girls middle school and varsity basketball teams.
